Guest guest
hello all! rainy day here in FL.... thought I'd share a quick story: while I was working out at the Y on Tuesday morning, (where I've entered into a cardio " challenge " - 7 legs of insanity! lol!), I was on a treadmill. Part of one of the legs requires walking/jogging 15 miles, which can be broken up into segments. sooo..I decided to do part of it on the treadmill, and see if I couldn't incorporate some " sprint/interval/fartlek " work into the workout..I was aiming to do 3 miles. I originally started off on a " manual " setting...adjusting speed and incline as I wanted...after .5 miles, I decided this was too tedious, and stopped, and restarted it again, after setting up a custom interval workout, which went something like 1.5 minutes at " x " speed, followed by 1 minute at greater than " x " speed, followed by the original 1.5 minutes, and then another 1 minute at greater than the 1st faster speed. ok....hope you're not lost.. my 1st speed, walking, was like 3.5 mph, or ~17.1 min/mile, followed by a 5mph, or 12 min/mile, followed by the 3.5 again, then followed by a 6mph, or 10 min/mile. That was the initial setup....I originally thought this would be plenty challenging since I hadn't been " jogging " much at all. After I'd completed once cycle, being one of each of the above four segments, I recogninzed something interesting: I was very tired, or very winded. ok...I said to myself...let's crank this up a bit...and then I took the fastest leg to 7.5mph, or 8min/mile, and was able to run that fairly easily, and then the next leg I took it up again to 8mph, or 7.5 min/mile. and that's the neighborhood where I left the settings. ok...so...what's the point of my story... the point is this: I haven't " run " that kind of pace since approx. the mid 1980s! I credit this improvement to the RF diet, with other Healthy Lifestyle choices. I was quite pleased, and am sharing this as encouragement to others, who may also notice unexpected improvements as they continue on the journey. all the best, Bob
