Guest guest
Crock Pot Stew (my spell checker wants to change it to Crack pot stew, so feel free to call it either) This is a good one for a hearty meal that doesn't heat up the house My whole family liked it, and my sons even said how great the gravy was. It is a delicious zesty gravy. <those are my words not their's. They said soemthing more like, " wow this is really good gravy. " 1/2 can of black beans Half a jar of spaghetti sauce, homemade or store bought, that's about 2 cups about 2 cups of water tablespoon or so of better than bouillian tablespoon of Italian seasoning 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 cup Tamari sauce, or soy sauce 2 onions about 6 large cloves of garlic veggies of choice, anything you have really, I used: 3 carrots 1 potato 1 of the onions broccoli mushrooms 2 or 3 tablespoons of nutritional yeast flakes noodles of choice ( I use the thin whole wheat noodles) 1 cup Mexican Mix cheese, which is a mix of sharp and montery jack (OPTIONAL) Cook noodles separately according to package directions. secret here is the veggies should be sliced thinly. I use a food processor to slice. The veggies are a different stew experience if sliced thinly rather than eaten in chunks, you get more of the zesty sauce per bite. mix all ingredients except for beans, yeast flakes and cheese in crockpot. cook on low for 3 hours, then add the beans, yeast flakes, and cheese if you are using the cheese. At his point it tastes really good without it. If you are not using the cheese it may be thinner however, so you could thicken it up a bit by adding maybe a smooth mixture of a tablespoon or two of flour mixed with a little water to make a thick paste, and stir that in if desired at this point. After cooking another hour it will thicken the sauce a bit. Cook for another hour, a total of 4 hours cooking time on low. Serve over the noodles. you can put the crock pot on keep warm for another few hours, which is really convenient for soccer nights etc. where family members are coming in and eating at all different times, just keep the pot of noodles next to the crock pot with a note that says, " If you don't see a maid standing at the sink, wash your own dish " hugs, Chanda
