Wow GB, I had no idea there were 20 different

types of mosquitos in Alaska; that is nuts!

What sort of natural insect repellent works best?

I would like the extra sunlight, I think.

The lack of daylight in the winter might be a

tough one though. Does the lack of it ever get

to you or your wife? The shorter days down here

in the winter really gets to my dh so he bought

one of those full spectrum lights and does light

therapy with great results.

Thanks so much for the generous invite to dinner.

If I ever make it up there I will take you up on it.

At least with you folks I know I won't be served

moose burgers or beaver tail stew! *lol*

Summer time is the best time to come to Alaska. It is beautiful. I

drive by mountains every day. Mosquitos are the state bird. There

are about 20 species of mosquitos in Alaska. There are some that

come out early like about May and stay until June. They are about

1 " long. They are slow though. They can be very bad since there

are over 3 million lakes over 3 acres and lots more wetlands. They

are usually gone by the end of August. Most of the times you just

have to put some natural insect repellent on. In some cases, you

may need a mosquito netting.

The extra sunlight does not bother me. A lot of people put up thick

curtains or aluminum foil to keep out the light. Or you can just

stay up with the light. I think the lack of light in the winter is

the much greater problem. It is harder to get outside because of

the lack of light and cold. A lot of people have SAD. More

suicides in the winter.

Come up and visit and we'll cook you a good vegetarian meal.
