Guest guest
Now if that isn't fun having a plum butter named after me. I love canning and I do have the stove top canning kettles. One question? Do you not boil your jars for 20 min. before putting prepared food in them? Even though we wash and rinse the bottles, sometimes in the dish washer, we always boil them to make sure soap residue and all germs are gone. IF the lids and caps are new we don't boil but we do have them sitting in very hot water while waiting to use them. Old lids and caps that are in very good condition are boiled along with the bottles. We boil ours in our canner and have them hot and ready to fill. Guest guest
Hi Deanna, Well, the info you & Marilyn sent helped so much I wanted to show that I didn't actually boil the jars. The Kerr box said to wash & rinse the jars & bands & lids and keep hot in 180 degree water until ready to fill. The 180 degree water was just on the edge of boiling - little bubbles rising but not big rolling bubbles and all together, everything was probably in there 20 mintues at least. Now I'm worried lol -- will it be ok? How can I tell if it's not ok? Will the little button on the lid pop up? I don't want to poison my MIL; I love my MIL. lol Peace, Diane , " genny_y2k " <genny_y2k wrote: > > Now if that isn't fun having a plum butter named after me.
