Guest guest
Here it is Judy I just typed it up. It doesn't get as crispy on the bbq as in the oven but it was good. If its to spicy leave the red pepper out or just cut it..I usually use 1/2 tsp for every cup of cornmeal. this is yummy. AJ Spicy Cornmeal Tofu Steaks 1 12 oz. pkg. firm tofu 3 cups vegetable stock 2 cups cornmeal, fine 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon ground red pepper 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1 cup egg substitute I slice the tofu into steaks, about 1/2 inch thick, 2 to 3 inches wide. Marinade in the vegetable broth for 1 to 24 hours. Then drain. I usually just marinade 1 to 2 hours, any longer makes it to hard to handle. Mix the cornmeal, flour, salt, garlic, oregano, red pepper and pepper in a bowl. In another bowl at the egg substitute. Dip the tofu steak in the cornmeal, then in the egg, then back in the cornmeal. Place on a foil lined, oiled, butter or sprayed cookie sheet. Place on bbq, on high heat, lid down for 5 minutes. then lid up turning only once. Cook until crispy. about 20 to 30 minutes. For in the oven do the same and bake for 30 minutes turning once after 15 minutes. This fed 3 adults and 4 children.
Guest guest
Thanks so much for sharing it. I'll try it in the oven. I'm not a grill person and I do love crispy.
