Guest guest
I love all things Alaska, but have never been there yet myself. I read a lot though, and I also watch any and every documentary on the state and surrounding territories I can find. Are the mosquitoes really aweful all summer long? I always wondered that. Also, do you have to do something special to deal with sunlight deprivation and the SAD blues during the winter, or doesn't it bother you much? ~ PT ~ Unless we think of others and do something for them, we miss one of the greatest sources of happiness. ~ Ray Lyman Wilbur ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " greatyoga " <greatyoga wrote: > > Y'all outta come up here where the high yesterday was 63. Guest guest
PT Summer time is the best time to come to Alaska. It is beautiful. I drive by mountains every day. Mosquitos are the state bird. There are about 20 species of mosquitos in Alaska. There are some that come out early like about May and stay until June. They are about 1 " long. They are slow though. They can be very bad since there are over 3 million lakes over 3 acres and lots more wetlands. They are usually gone by the end of August. Most of the times you just have to put some natural insect repellent on. In some cases, you may need a mosquito netting. The extra sunlight does not bother me. A lot of people put up thick curtains or aluminum foil to keep out the light. Or you can just stay up with the light. I think the lack of light in the winter is the much greater problem. It is harder to get outside because of the lack of light and cold. A lot of people have SAD. More suicides in the winter. Come up and visit and we'll cook you a good vegetarian meal.
