ok, as 1/2 of a professional landscape design/build firm, I have to step in

on the watering issue. Over watering and under watering produce the same

result/response in the plant. The only way to know for sure it to MONITOR YOUR

SOIL MOISTURE. Take a trowel or shovel and stick it in the ground near the drip

line or closer. Check the soil. Is it wringing wet? Dry and crumbly? Compare

this to the needs of the plant. Do not ever ever ever rely on a watering

irrigation system to water your woody stem plants. They water for the benefit of

lawn, which only roots 2 " or so. Woody stem plants go much deeper, how much

deeper depends on the plant in question. Generally, when you water, you want

to put a trickle line on the plant for a couple hours, to allow the water to

soak in and nourish the roots.
