I try to do the vegetarian thing myself, while hubby is a meat eater (he can

usually go a couple of days without some kind of meat). I get tired of beans

and like variety.

I saw a lady in the store the other day buying tempeh (she said to put some

sauce on it and fry it), but it didn't have a price on it, so I passed it by (I

can't believe that tofu is over $2.50 a pkg now in Kroger). Yesterday, I had a

spinach salad with a little avocado and a side of eggless egg salad at the

healthfood market. I don't do well planning and am always in a hurry (this heat

is not helping either). Anyone have any simple ideas?

Many people who have diabetes need a diet with higher protein and

less carbs. An Atkins diet goes too far in my opinion. However

diet is 90 % of the problem and 90% of the solution if one wants to

reverse it. One needs to write down everything they ingest for 3

days. The reason for the is it is often different than what one

thinks they eat. Figure out how many carbs, sugar, fats and

especially saturated and transfats they eat a day. Do an alkaline-

acid test to find out acidity of urine and saliva. There are diets

that can reverse this along with supplements if one wants to do this.

OK, I bet I'll get slammed somewhere along the line over this but...Let me

preface it by saying, I do NOT have a normal stomach. I have a small, 20 cc

pouch due to some problems, ok? 20 cc's is less than one ounce which is 30 cc.

So to supplement the veggie foods I do eat (and there is protein in a lot more

than just beans), I use protein shakes 3X a day. There are soy based shakes

(ok, I really don't like them) and whey based. Things like Carnation Instant

Breakfast are NOT, and I must repeat, NOT protein supplements. If you want more

info, email me offlist, I'll be glad to tell you about them. Also where you can

order a sample so you don't plunk down big bucks for a 5 pound bucket. K? Hugs,

Jeanne in Georgia
