Guest guest
Review: Newman's Own Organics Baby Spring Mix. A mixture of baby lettuces:Baby Red Romaine, Baby Tango, Baby Lollo Rosa, Baby Arugula, Baby Red Leaf, Baby Green Romaine, Baby Little Gem, Baby Mizuna, Baby Tat Soi, Baby Green Chard, Baby Red Chard, Baby Red Mustard, Baby Red Oak, Baby Green Oak, Frisee, and Radicchio. The one pound box comes in a neat, clear container made of corn. These greens are so good, there are days that I'll have four salads in a day. The down side is that they go bad rather more quickly than the Iceberg lettuce in a bag stuff, but it is worth it. It costs about five dollars for the box, which isn't that bad, compared to the Iceberg stuff. I've even used it in stir fry and when it was getting past prime, threw it in my vegetable stock. If you like salads and find this, it is worth buying. Tonights dinner...simple, quick. Tossed Salad with Pan Roasted Corn, garnished with fried strips of corn tortilla Bed of baby greens Sliced fresh tomatoes Sliced cucumbers Julienned carrots Sliced Vidalia onion Whole black olives, pitted Black beans, heated, rinsed Roasted corn Dressing your choice Cut one corn tortilla into strips per salad. Heat about a couple tablespoons (more if needed) of oil in skillet till hot, quickly toast corn tortilla strips. Put on paper towel to drain. Arrange salad on plate. Top with about a couple spoons of black beans. (Canned ok). Get wok very hot, toss in corn, shake pan till corn lightly browned/roasted. Top beans with about some roasted corn. Garnish with crisped tortilla strips. Serve with dressing of your choice. Dessert was fresh stewed figs over French Vanilla ice cream. Despite the drought our fig trees have been putting out wonderful, if small, hyper sweet figs. All I did to stew them was stem, wash, toss in a saucepan, cook on the hotplate (or stove) with some cinnamon, a little lemon juice, grated lemon zest, covered with water and simmered till figs tender/falling apart. As they were very sweet to begin with, all I needed to add was a tiny bit of honey. Jeanne in Georgia Groups are talking. We’re listening. Check out the handy changes to Groups.
