review of corn soup

This morning, my daughter gave me a crockpot for my birthday, so of

course I had to immediately try it out. I decided to try the Corn

Chowder in Crockpot recipe from the files. It took me 2 trips to the

grocery store (I forgot the corn the first time out). The one

ingredient I've never used before is Liquid Smoke. The cashier was

telling me how controversial Liquid Smoke was a few years ago -- news to

me. Anyway, the recipe is fast and yummy, though my vegetarian daughter

and I aren't sure we love the " bacon " flavor that the smoke imparts.

Also, I checked 3 stores but couldn't find the vegetarian Worcestershire

sauce, so I left that out, though I added some other herbs instead.

But, all in all, a simple, yummy soup. I'm going to have fun with this

crock pot!

I also made a double-batch of mock crab cakes. I planned to freeze

some, but I don't think they'll last that long. Oh, my, are those

things good. I use BBQ Cajun seasoning instead of Old Bay and my

daughter and I treat them like vegie burgers, but they are good enough

to eat plain. You newbies to the list should definitely check them out

(you can find them under Zucchini in the files).

Thanks! Yes, I can't wait to really use this thing. The soup was so

easy. I've been googling more recipes as well. For example, in the

past I've seen some slow cooker breakfast recipes, and now I want to

find those again.

HUbby didn't like this but I did. Good thing one of us did cuz it

made enough for a week!

Crock Pot Breakfast Cobbler

4 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced

1/4 cup honey

1 tsp cinnamon

2 tablespoons butter, melted

2 cups granola cereal or regular oats

Place apples (use a sweet firm kind) in crock pot and mix in remaining

ingredients. Cover and cook on low 7-9 hours (overnight) or on high 2-

3 hours. Serve with milk. Makes 4 servings .
