Guest guest
Yep, peas, carrots, green beans, collards, blackeye peas, melon, apples, everything we humans will eat they will steal from our plates! The dogs and cats love when we have corn on the cob because they really love gnawing on them. (II must admit I wonder if they are part pig or goat). Oddly the one veggie they will actually fight over is cooked Brussels sprouts. I have yet to find a safe way to sprout beans here because the little brats will devour them. If I bring in a container of alfalfa sprouts and don't immediately put it in the fridge, they will steal it and hide and the only thing I will hear from where they are hiding is growling and the crinkle of plastic getting torn apart. They love all beans, legumes, lentils and when I have those in the slow cooker I must put a bungee cord around the cooker to keep the lid on or they'll eat the entire pot of beans. Thankfully they cannot open the rice cooker. (Zoirushi) Here's what I make for their dinner when we run out of kibble. Naturally they would like it every night but.... Paws To Love " Honey we're out of cat and dog food " Tummy Filler 6 cups brown rice 12 cups veggie broth 1 bag frozen mixed veggies 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or couple cloves fresh garlic, crushed) 2 dozen eggs 1 teaspoon soy or teriyaki sauce (or to taste if human person is going to eat it) Cook rice, garlic, soy sauce and veggies together in veggie broth. Beat eggs and add to cooked rice. Stir till eggs are cooked. (Residual heat from the rice will cook the eggs). Let cool, fighting off the slathering, yowling, yikking beasts. Feeds around 24 cats, 4 large dogs (the smallest is 65 pounds.) Not kidding, but each time I've made this, my husband swipes a bowlful before the animals get theirs.
