Guest guest
I live about 3 blocks from the Amtrak station in Ann Arbor. My DH's brother lives north of Chicago, his aunt in Hyde Park, his uncle is retired from the University it is a lovely train ride. And on the train I can knit or read. But I don't do long drives well. Usually someone wants to strap me to the roof after an hour. AmyF
Guest guest
Last year I took Amtrak from Redding California to Encinitas [just north of San Diego] to attend a spiritual retreat. The train tended to be very behind schedule. The vegetarian food was limited in the dining car, but it was adequate. You could always get a gardenburger at the snack bar. It is a long trip, but I slept very well and prefer it to flying. I had a little sleeping nook. There are showers that remind me of the ones in our 5th wheel. I was able to get a lot of knitting and reading done. The views out the windows are great--especially along the Pacific Ocean north of Santa Barbara. You see areas that you never see in a car. Amtrak also has buses that connect with their trains. I have also heard great things about Canadian trains. Kathleen M. Guest guest
I did a 13 hour train trip from Montreal to toronto, to Windsor a few years ago. then a friend met me and drove me to detroit (for a KISS concert) It was a great trip - super comfortable, great view.. I was in first class (my work paid for the trip) but I'm sure it woul;d have been fine anywhere the veggie food was ok, pasta like stuff mike
