Guest guest
My degree is post secondary math ed, not nutrition or medicine but I believe that we are seeing a lot more food allergies now because of all the additives in food and the toxic chemicals used in growing and producing them. Look at all the chemicals that are sprayed onto fields, onto produce after it is picked (to keep " fresh " ). Chemicals in our water, in our soil, in our air and even in our houses. My husband and I eat eggs from a friend's chickens. Her chickens are free range and kept as pets, not for the pot. She is VERY against any chemicals used on or near her property and hens. A couple of weeks ago she didn't have any eggs, so my husband picked up a dozen at the grocery store. I didn't know that, and cooked one for breakfast. YUK! It was horrid, really. Being used to fresh, very organically grown eggs, the store bought things tasted like they had been poisoned. Looking at how eggs come to market, I think they were poisoned. Poor birds. Where I live it is pecan and peanut country. In the spring, the area around the pecan trees is sprayed to kill grass. Then the trees are sprayed at least once during the growing season to kill bugs, aphids, etc. Peanuts are also sprayed, usually a couple of times before they are tilled up and harvested. About ten years ago, a fellow home schooler who is a peanut farmer, told me that aflatoxins have been getting worse in peanuts, and that their chemical bills had doubled. Aflatoxins are naturally occurring mycrotoxins from a fungus and have been shown to be carcinogenic in some animals. Scientists at the Salman Pak facility(Iraq) were ordered to produce aflatoxins as a bio weapon. Our home sits on top of two Superfund Sites. Our home well tested above maximum contaminent levels for a number of really nasty chemicals including tetrachlorobenzene and others. We were told it was perfectly safe but don't drink the water, bathe with it or use it on the garden. Oh, and of course if we actually sell the house and land, WE could be liable if the future owner got sick from exposure to the chemical cocktail that is our water. (Since it was part of the US government that contaminated our water to begin with, they used the Imminent Domain thing to get out of responsibility other than putting us on city water) My body is basically trying to get rid of itself. I have a number of autoimmune problems. (Odd,I never did before moving here.) So of course my doctors have me on lots of drugs to keep me moving. (oh joy, more chemicals) Remember Chernobyl? Cesium-137 was (and still is) found in reindeer meat, milk, sheep, etc.in Norway. Are you my age (57)? If you are, you may remember being told to stay inside on certain days because clouds with radioactive materials from above ground testing of nuclear weapons, were going to be overhead. Go back a few years before that and you will find that a short government info film was done on the SAFETY of DDT. I remember seeing women and children sitting in chairs outside in their suburban neighborhood being sprayed with DDT, just to show how safe it was. Sorry to go on so long, but I do feel strongly that the problems with food and other allergies as well as auto-immune diseases are just going to get worse. I also believe that the constant exposure to mega doses of chemicals is not doing any of us any good, and the insane thing is that we are doing it to ourselves. ah well.
