Then fill up the rest of the way with the nondairy milk of your choice. Whisk this together and let sit for 5 minutes and voila vegan buttermilk substitute. BTW, letting it sit for 5 minutes before using is the ideal and in my world it rarely happens. I've never noticed a problem skipping it.
