Guest guest
This is definitely a controversial topic. I have not found any studies on either side that are definitive. I would err on the side of caution. I don't think canola oil is that healthy even though it is one of the oils that is lowest in mono unsaturated and polyunsaturated oils. If it has some of the erucic acid in it, then it may not be the best oil. Sunflower or almond oils would be better in my estimation if you do not cook with them. I just saw a short article in Yoga Journal about coconut oil. " But it turns out theIndians may have been right. While the fat in coconut is about 92 percent saturated, research has increasingly shown that not all such fats are created equal. The length of the chains of the carbon atoms in fats determines how our body processes them; the saturated fat in coconut oil ismade up of medium chain fatty acids, which raise blood cholesterol only slightly, if at all. Instead of storing them, the body transmits them straight to the liver, where they're used immediately for energy " says Peter jones, a professor of nutrition at the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition at Mc Gill Universit in Montreal. " My guess is that ghee is processed differently in the body than butter because it would have the medium chain fatty acids. The reason canola is particularly unsuited for consumption is because it contains a very–long–chain fatty acid called erucic acid, which under some circumstances is associated with fibrotic heart lesions Canola is from rapeseed, an oil which poisonous to living things and is an excellent insect repellent Try the website - http://www.luminet.net/~wenonah/new/canola.htm AJ <coolcook wrote: Tasty Pumpkin Bread 15 ounce can pumpkin puree 4 eggs or egg substutite 1 cup vegetable (preferably canola) oil 2/3 cup water 3 cups sugar 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 2 tsps. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsps. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 3/4 tsp. ground cloves 1/2 tsp. ground ginger Preheat the over to 350 degrees, and grease and flour 2 loaf pans. Combine pumpkin, eggs, oil, water, and sugar in a large bowl until well blended. In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining (dry) ingredients, and then slowly stir them into the pumpkin mixture. (Mix completely but don't over stir/blend the mixture.) Pour the batter evenly into two loaf pans, and bake for approximately one hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes 2 loaves.
Guest guest
Thanks for the heads-up, Elizabeth! I've known this for about a year now and avoid canola oil altogether. -Tiffany Lohr Elizabeth Sinkey <westoo wrote: Please don't use canola oil! It is genetically engineered rapeseed oil. You can go ahead and use it to oil your sewing machine or lawnmower because that's all it's good for. NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION! Go to: www.karinya.com/canola.htm There's plenty other websites on it, too. In good health........Betsy
