Guest guest
Thanks from our family too, Judy! Our Riley is being raised vegetarian and we have found that even as a baby with " This Little Piggy " that we had to think quickly and change those words to " This little piggy ate roast taties " or pumpkin, turnips, swedes ( rutabagas ) - any veg. we roast for tea. At 2 he doesn't realize of course- but I feel good 'vegan-izing " or at least removing the animal eating aspect of his stories. The sad part is that most old nursery rhymes are actually violent when you think of them ( and down will come cradle, baby and all!) that we didnt' really tell them to him- we just chose other things to tell- or spent time recounting all the good things we did that day. That was usually enough to help him settle and you could see him remembering- it was the neatest thing. This list is REALLY helpful - am hoping to be able to find a few here in Oz. Thanks from the bottom of our pea pickin' hearts! Guest guest
-Sharon, I wrote special poetry and rhymes for my kids when they were little. One example was " Go Fox Go " ..After the kids saw a docu about fox hunting. I think changing the story into a positive one is helpful. I changed the Rock-a-bye song to ending 'Babies cradle will rock rock.' To a rock and roll beat. I was a teeny bopper.
