Guest guest
A few days ago I posted a recipe for fiddlehead ferns. These are the coiled beginning stage of the ostrich fern. This is the safe fern to eat although it must be cooked.. It is safe to eat if it can be snapped off the stem of the new frond. I t is found in cool moist places. It is usually found in shady places but can thrive in sunny places if they are moist. They are found on forest floors, in stream beds and near lakes and in wetlands. Some of the places they can be found are in Canada particularly in BC and Southeast but whereever cool wet conditions apply. They are found in Alaska and No. California, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Washington. They are found in most of the Midwest states and virtually all states north of Tennesse. They are also found in specific places south of Tennessee and in specific places in the Western states. They are found in most of Europe, foothills of the Himalayas and many other places. Fiddlehead ferns are a throwback to our origins. We have to hunt for our food. The hunt is the fun part. It is great exercise and it gives us a chance to get fresh air. It gives us a chance to lose weight if one needs to. We cannot just run down to the A & P store to buy it. Some farmers markets and some specialty stores may carry them. Go out in nature and explore the bounty of fresh organic plant. Remember, do not overpick. GB Gurubandhu If you cannot see God in all, You cannot see God at all.
