Guest guest
Whitney Corn smut is called cuitlacoche in Mexico. It has traditionally been used as a uterine stimulant in labor and for a lot of female problems. Also used for alopecia. It has been used for hepatic and gastric ulcers. It is an antibiotic compound for Candida Albicans and other fungi. It has been used for antitumor activity in animal studies andto improve digestion and take away constipation. GB I was in Merida, Campeche, and Celestun, with a day trip along the Puuc Route to several Maya sites. Besides all of the tropical fruits that we tried (huaya, guanabana, mamey, etc.) I had two stand-out traditional Yucatecan dishes; papadzules (hard-boiled egg stuffed tortillas with tomato sauce and pumpkin seed sauce) and panuchos sin pollo (two deep fried tortillas stuff with beans and topped with avocado, lettuce, tomatoe, and pickeled onions). I also had a dish of ground pumpkin seeds cooked in a traditional method that I can't remember but it looked like cat food and was not a favorite of mine, as well as, cuitlacoche stuffed crepes (cuitlacoche is corn fungus) which was- surprisingly to me- delicious. Guest guest
Wow! you are just a regular encyclopedia... I should always direct my questions to you. :-) We looked for cuitlacoche last year when we were in Oaxaca, it is supposed to be served in a lot of restaurants in that area, but we couldn't find it. We ended up finding it at a restaurant called Casa de Frida in Merida. --- Guru Khalsa <greatyoga wrote: > Whitney > > Corn smut is called cuitlacoche in Mexico. Guest guest
Whitney, Icheated. I have a book called " Medicinal Mushrooms " byChristopher Hobbs and it has the medicinal qualities of quite a few mushrooms. I like to harvest wild mushrooms. Most of the ones I pick you can't buy but are much better than storebought. GB , whitney <starrypryncess wrote: > > > > Wow! you are just a regular encyclopedia...
