Guest guest
Tonight we were having my husband's adult daughter for dinner so I thought that it would give me the opportunity to try a vegetarian meal for everyone. It can get very disheartening sometimes when you are expected to cook two completely separate dinners....one for yourself, the vegetarian, and one for the " carnivores " . Tonight was going to be different. I bought this beautiful little sugar pumpkin and I decided to try one of Lindsey Wagner's recipes for stuffed pumpkin. It turned out very pretty and tasted good but I found it very discouraging when both my husband and my step daughter only served themselves a spoonful and then went to the fridge and hauled out the lunch meat to stuff on the beautiful dinner rolls that I had made from scratch to go with the stuffed pumpkin. Do people have any idea how rude that is? I worked so hard on that dinner and I ended up emptying the stuffing into a plastic container and scooping out the rest of this beautiful little pumpkin to puree and use in soup. Very, very discouraging. You'd think that they would at least have the manners to eat what I fix just this once. :0( Stef Argue not with dragons, for thou art crunchy and go well with brie. Guest guest
Oh gosh, that just isn't right. Would they do the same if they were at a stranger's home for dinner? A dinner party with their boss (with the boss's wife fixing the meal)? My guess is that they wouldn't. My big problem around here is that my husband cannot stand the smell of most of my vegan meals. He hates the smell of TVP, and any of the convenience soy products (Boca, Gardenburger--with the exception of the riblets, etc). One night last week, I had used our microwave to heat up some refried beans, and it had been covered, so there was not splattering on the inside of the microwave or anything....but when my husband wanted to nuke his frozen french bread pizza right afterwards, he turned to our son and said, " Let's go downstairs and use the microwave under the bar. I don't want my food being stunk up by Mommy's food " . Grrrrrr..... Now my son has started to act like my husband, and when we sit down to lunch during the day, he scoots away or moves to another area to eat, saying the smell of my food will make his food taste bad. I told him to stop listening to his Father. LOL! :-D Pat :-D Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005
Guest guest
Aw, that is aweful, Stef. (((hugs))) So sorry that happened; i think it is rude what they did. Not sure what the solution would be to cure them of bad manners. Maybe just having a heart to heart talk with your dh to explain how it made you feel? Another idea would be to ask them to pick out some sort of menu with you ahead of time. Like say, lasagne or something familiar to them. Then, make it vegetarianized. i find with meat-eaters that if i serve a familiar food they feel less " cheated " out of the " main course " of meat. The meal you served sounds so lovely and gourmet! i would have adored it. Sounds very beautiful in presentation. The perfect dinner to serve to guests you wish to honor. Don't let them discourage you from your good effort. Share with us the recipe, too. Guest guest
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr\ rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :>( Perhaps for Xmas ( or whatever gift giving holiday is next for you) they should both recieve books on manners!! If you were my daughter i would say sweetheart they can eat what you cook or make their own- and do there own dishes too!! But I'm not your mama and don't know if that would be right for you so I'm not giving advice. my heart just aches for you though, to work hard at making something special and have it so unappreciated is heart breaking. Rude? you betcha that was rude, I better not go there 'cause it makes me sooooooooooo mad. Hopefully they'll wise up eventually. peace, Angela steff davidson <steffdav46 wrote: Tonight we were having my husband's adult daughter for dinner so I thought that it would give me the opportunity to try a vegetarian meal for everyone. Guest guest
Awww, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that your step-daughter didn't appreciate all the trouble you went to for her. -Craige
