Guest guest
Oops... i was busy being a hostess with my Mom here visiting and i am just now getting a chance to post this weeks qotw. Sorry about that. The good news is we have just gotten word that Shawn is alright and has survived the hurricaine without a scratch. Yay! Okay here's the group question: What is your favorite cookbook; the one you look at most, use for inspiration, etc? What are some features about this particular book that you enjoy above others? i love cookbook reviews! *lol* Oh, and it doesn't have to be a vegetarian cookbook per say. It can be any cookbook you are currently enjoying the heck out of. i am tired and turning in for the night. Guest guest
The Household Searchlight Recipe Book everything is clearly explained, a person who knew nothing about cooking could put out a great meal from this book. during hard times it was especially helpful, taught me to make cornmeal mush, rice that wasn't instant, etc (yeeeears ago, LOL) the best tho' was I had the receipt, my mama bought it from a door to door salesman 2 weeks before my 2nd birthday. it was full of notes, recipes- cut out of the newspaper, hand written on notebook paper some by mom, some by dad. unfortunately it was in storage and stolen about 20 yrs ago. found another copy in a thrift shop recently - may not follow the recipes now but had to have it anyway. who I am is fine, it's just this body that's disabled! What are some features about this > particular book that you enjoy above others? I like " The Millenium Cookbook " (Tucker et al) for vegan special occasion food. When I want a simple-but-guaranteed-to-work-and-to-please dessert, I pull out the " Moosewood Book of Desserts " . When I'm trying to be really health conscious, I love to open up " Conscious Cuisine " (Neff), which isn't vegetarian, but inspirational nonetheless. I also love " 3 Bowls " (Farrey), " In the Sweet Kitchen " (Daley), " French Tarts " (Dannenberg), the " 5-Ingredient Vegetarian Gourmet " and " Vegetarian Family Cookbook " (both Atlas), and the " Laurel's Kitchen Bread Book " and " The Bread Baker's Apprentice " (Reinhart) for breads... I also love Mark Bittman's books for his simplicity, even though they're definitely not veg. Ok, that's enough to start with! I love cookbooks... :-) Amy
