Guest guest
Where is the Farm Sanctuary located in upstate NY? That is where we are from, and where my Mom lives. Maybe if it is close enough i can tell her about it and encourage her to go. Thanks. She isn't a vegetarian, but she enjoys eating a vegetarian diet when she is with me. Her husband is pretty into deer hunting and fishing, etc. He eats meat with every meal of some sort or another. Hope he can adjust while he is visiting me. *lol* ~ pt ~ Most gods have the manners and morals of a spoiled child. ~ Robert Heinlein ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , " Tom " < antipreophogistiii> wrote: > So you kind of got the nose of the camel in the tent with your mom. > If you can next get her to the Farm Sanctuary down in Orland, > California, she would better appreciate vegetarianism, if she isn't > already a vegetarian or inclined to be. Guest guest
The Farm Sanctuary website (www.farmsanctuary.org) gives this description of their NY farm: " Our 175-acre New York farm is set amidst rolling green hills and forests in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. We are located next door to Sugar Hill State Forest, just west of Watkins Glen. It is a 45-minute drive west of Ithaca and a 1½-hour drive southeast of Rochester. " And there are driving directions at http://www.farmsanctuary.org/visit/ny_directions.htm. I've have sometimes noticed that many hunters and fishing people feel a deep connection with the animals they kill for food - certainly more than those who simply eat lots of hamburgers without a thought of where it comes from. Our local animal rights group has attracted what seems to me to be a disproportionate number of hunters - and picture that and the inevitable discord, vegans and hunters trying to find common ground, but it often works out. Some hunters eat more like an indigenous diet which is naturally much less meat than the standard American diet. And hunters can be some of the most vocal critics of what they do in factory farms and those monstrous slaughterhouses.... Guest guest
Hey, that's not far from where I grew up (only a couple of hours). Wish I'd known it was there before my last visit!
