Guest guest
Thanks, Denise for the great idea. Your garden makes me envious. The deer (we live in the city, but we are next to a plot of land that can't be hunted) hit us very hard. I was pretty mad since I did most of the work this summer myself. And with two little ones and extra part of the day, doing garden work was hard. Better luck next time. By the way, does any of our gardeners have a deer safe repellient? I obviously don't want something bad for the environment, but would like to keep the pesky deer in the back where there is plenty to graze. Just not my garden. That way you can make up bags of mixed veggies which can then get thrown into your stews this winter. Some instructions say to blanch before freezing, but I just cut mine up into the size I want and depending on the water content of the produce I either lay them out of a cookie sheet so each piece freezes seperately then I bag them, or I just throw them into a freezer bag, like carrots and green beans. I also got my food dehydrator out last weekend and dried some of my carrots. I had so many, that I wanted to save room in my freezer for other things. I think I'll dry some onions, too. I love stews, but I will miss the nicely priced fresh veggies.
