Greetings! New to list, I'm currently in NE Indiana (not really the

best place for seaweed :-). But, while living in Okinawa I'm afraid I

acquired a taste for sea veggies. I've read a number of things that

refer to baked beans (and other beans) using kombu and was wondering if

any of you have a favorite recipe you could share? Or...any other

favorite sea veg recipes? I currently have a big ol' box full of kombu,

wakame, Dulse flakes, and hijiki that I'd just love to learn with :-) My

current favorite recipe is the one at the link below for 'Shiitake

Mushroom and Seaweed Soup'. When I've made it previously I used kombu

sliced widthwise in about 1/8-1/4 " wide strips (crunchy like carrot

sticks, yum!)

Anyway, I really love the sea veggies so if y'all could share some

favorites I'd really appreciate it! (Maybe Cookbook recommendations for

seaveg recipes?)

Thanks Much!!

It';s usually just an inch of kombu per cup of beans... you can't

taste it, but it helps make the beans more digestible.

I'm not much on sea veggies, though I'd like to be! Anyway, I have

one for hijiki that called for soaking/simmering in apple juice. It

was good, but maybe not " sea " enough for you? I'll see if I can find

(things are in flux with moving next week!).

Welcome to the group, Paul. This is definitely the place to come for

sea veggie recipes! (although not by me, sorry).

How long did you live in Okinawa? Must be quite a change to be in

Indiana, or did you grow up there?
