shawn,

you can't use flaxseed oil to cook at high

temperatures. in fact, you should not even heat it,

that destroys all the benefical health properties. it

also should be stored in the fridge.

i like peanut oil...it's great for asian stir-fries

and i like the peanutty flavor. i also like virgin

coconut oil (the spectrum brand is not virgin) , but i

would suggest getting one that is a virgin coconut oil

(not bleached, cold pressed, not deodorized, and is

organic). you had better like the flavor of coconut

if you use this oil. it's pretty pricey.

did you decide canola oil wasn't good for you? i've

read reports going both ways...it's good, it's bad.

hard to know what to believe. i use a expeller-

pressed (pressed without chemicals) canola, but not

massive amounts.

hope i helped a bit,

susie

Thanks Susie, Donna and Melissa Hill for the flax seed information. Luckily

(and I pretty much expected ) my store doesn't know of any type of oil other

than veg, corn, peanut and canola (along with not knowing what wheat buns

and wheat pasta are).

My first choice was going to be peanut oil until I realized they only sold

peanut oil by the massive jug! I'm not going to be swimming in the stuff and

I'm not going to be frying up chickens (as the picture suggests).

Actually, next time I go back I'm going to get peanut oil. Your " asian

stir-fries " and " peanuty flavor " bits sold me on it. I'll find a more

convenient container to pour into and store the massive jug with my winter

stuff!

Same here. I've heard both good and bad. Is it natural how it's processed

and it's one molecule away from being wd-40 (haha) and all those other bits

floating about. They also have canola oils that have been mixed with corn

and others that are suppose to be a good balanced and healthy bottle of oil.

I picked up a Canola Harvest bottle.

http://www.canolaharvest.com/usa/products/index.html

The site doesn't express anything about how it's pressed so I assume they

aren't worried about chemicals but I have no idear.

Yes, thank you Susie and everyone. ...and yes, Chanda, you're definitely

worth it! ;)

shawn,

you may not have to buy a huge container of peanut

oil. i've gotten it in a small bottle. planter's

makes a small bottle. you may just have to look

around for a store that carries the smaller bottles.
