Garlic is usually prohibited in cooking in most

of the Chinese Monasteries or temples. Another

two items are also not allowed -- the Chinese

chive and green onion. The main reason is that

they produce very strong aromas that may affect

the monks' peaceful mind and soul.

 

 

 

 

 

I eat at two vegan Chinese places that don't cook

with onion or garlic either. They both told me

it's a religious
