Guest guest
So this morning I went to the bookstore to check out the new cookbook from Dirk Bach (famous actor/comedian in germany), Vegetarian Schlemmen (Feast Vegetarian) and of course couldn't resist buying it despite the price and weight (working on packing). This evening I finally got around to being able to read the book cover to cover instead of just flipping through it. I lay back in my bed and read through some of the delicious recipes trying to note which ones I want to try out in the future. I breathed in heavily while reading about one particularly tasty-sounding recipe. " Boy, " I thought, " I can almost smell how good this recipe tastes! " When I remembered that I had a pot of boiling water with broth and various spices on the stove waiting for some pasta to be thrown in. LOL! The cookbook is actually quite good, I was surprised. It has recipes with a lot of ingredients but upon close inspection most of them are little bits of things here and there that are in most kitchens anyway. And each recipe has a little commentary beforehand from Dirk about how the recipe came about, how he cooks it, tips, or a funny story of the recipe with family and friends. It also has little sections on eating at home, at work and while travelling which is nice. And thought Dirk claims to be clueless about cooking, he has indeed cooked all of these recipes and even has certain products that he will only buy fresh or a certain type of. One thing that made me laugh is that one of the reasons he wrote the book is that he was inspired by lots of other famous people writing about their famous recipes but how although the book is filled with their pictures you never see them at the stove or cooking, so in the book there are many pictures of Dirk doing just that (cooking). Yay new cookbook! Oh, for some recipe examples: noodles with tomato- nut sauce, pear quiche, lilac berry soup with semolina dumplings, bavarian mousse with raspberry sauce, 2 type of potatoes with cheese baked on top, corn muffins with warm herb butter, pear-cranberry gratin. Mmmmmmmmm.
