Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Kay and thanks for the intro. It seems to me that you are lacking iron, not so much protein. Some good iron rich foods: collards, kale, turnip greens, spinach, Jerusalem artichokes, pumpkin, potatoes in their skin, spirulina (seaweed) all kinds of legumes, blackstrap molasses, dried fruits. Try to increase these in your diet and see what happens. Also, just eating beans isn't a complete protein, so you need to make sure you eat a whole grain as well (not necessarily at the same meal, but within the same 24-hr period). Hence the beans and rice dish. I used to have a hard time donating blood because of my low count, but when I incorporated more dark leafy greens into my diet, as well as other healthy foods (before I became a complete veggie) I was finally able to donate on a regular basis. Hope your quest is successful and check out our files section for some wonderful recipes! I'm sure you will find this group to be very supportive, full of suggestions and lots of recipe ideas! Guest guest
Carob is also pretty high in iron, if it is something you like...to my complete surprise, some people don't like it...I just love it and don't feel so bad indulging my sweet tooth cuz I pretend it is healthy. Just make sure you get the sweetened kind... You could get carob covered raisins and have a double dose of iron and sweet! m
