Guest guest
Let me preface this by saying this is a VERY flexible recipe. My friend, Krith, did not really give exact measurements for the spices so just adjust them to your liking. This is her recipe. Sambhar 1 onion ~1 tsp(+) of each: tumeric, curry, chili powder or flakes, cumin 1-2 fresh chilis 1 cup red lentils (This works best with red lentils) 1 cup water 1-2 tsp sugar to counteract spice Add veggies if you'd like...peas, cauliflower, potatoes are best. 1. Prepare red lentils with ~1 cup water and 1 cup of red lentils. Cook until they are mushy. This takes less than 20 minutes. 2. Cook onions in some oil until slightly browned. 3. Add all spices and cook a few minutes. Do not let burn. 4. Add lentils and cook with spices for several minutes. Make sure lentils don't stick to pan. Add about 1/2 cup water to mixture to make a little soupy. 5. Add a few tsp of sugar and veggies. Cook about 5 minutes. 6. Serve over some basmati rice and along with naan (Indian flat bread). Yummy, healthy and cheap Jen Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead, 1901 - 1978 Mail Mobile Take Mail with you!
