Guest guest
Hey all this is my first post though I've been reading the messages here for months now. A few years ago I thought I was lactose intolerant- I certainly fit most of the symptoms. I couldn't drink milk of any type without 'bring on the pot' as an earlier post I read said. And yogurt was also out, not matter if it was plain or loaded down with fruits or chocolates. And cheeses were my enemy. I spent weeks trying to figure out which ones made me feel ill and which ones I was fine with. I ended up figuring out that it was a difference between the hard cheese and soft cheeses. The only thing close to dairy I managed to eat was Stonyfield Farms jogurt and I don't know why. I forget which type it was as they have many, but it was a purple container and some sort of mixed berry flavor. However, I moved to Germany last year and for awhile I staved off most dairy thinking indeed I was lactose intolerant, or had IBS or something. But then I just couldnt resist. I bought a carton of low fat milk...and after drinking it I was fine. So when the weather got warm and all my friends were going out for ice cream I said why not. And I ate it and was fine. So I did some research and besides the fact that almost everything in Germany is organic (and real organic, not the us definition of organic) everything is also made without preservatives. And if it is, its marked to say so. So it turns out I was never lactose intolerant after all, it was just all the chemicals and 'unnaturalness' of the foods in the US that was giving me trouble. I think Im going to be having some trouble when I return to the US in August adjusting to foods again but hopefully the organic stores in the area where I live will carry a bunch of the foods I have incorporated into my eating habits here. Today is Mensa (cafeteria) day for me and they serve the best vegetarian meals for a super cheap cost. Today's a Greek rice plate with veggies! Have a fun and colorful veggie day! -budgiegirl2003
