Guest guest
Hey BJ- I missed the recipe that used the lovage- but saw your question and didnt' see a reply yet - so thought I would chime in- if I am repeating- so sorry. Lovage is an herb that has the taste of celery and can be easily substituted in recipes that call for celery and you dont have any. I found that it was stronger in flavour so I used less- but I only used it a few times before the season was over and I lost the plant due to a really cold weather. I tried growing it here too- but found that it went to seed and that was it- never came back and the horrendous clay soil we have wouldn't let volunteers come up from it. So I haven't tried again=but I LOVE to grow it- it is one of those plants that when you get near it- esp on a warm summer evening the air is fragrant with the smell of celery. I just loved it. It is a pretty plant- the leaves are very similar to the older celery leaves too! I can't help with if Whole Foods having it or not- since i am in South Australia and we dont have any! lol I have never seen it for sale anywhere other than garden centers /plant places myself. If you have some space in your garden- I would recommend growing it! Hope I have helped a little.....can anyone else help?? Sharon in SA - BJ Re: new member - recipe ? I forgot to ask you - what kind of a flavor does lovage have? And where did you buy that? Would Whole Foods have it? Thanks Jeanne
