Guest guest
Kathleen I do a great amount of shopping a a resturant supply complany. they sell 32 oz cans of vegetarian baked beans, the problem is they don't have much flavor so we change it add some of our own little hints and spices and and make it better. It just a tin can with vegetarian beans on the label no other information. to use smaller cans use 4 cans and then make the recipe as stated. Or i have included 2 recipes below for other ways of making Baked beans that we have used before. the first is for from scratch the second is with canned beans. With 7 kids i don't always have the time to soak beans, so i use what i can. Oh and most baked bean recipes do use pinto beans, but i have used cannellini beans too. To kind the larger cans of beans costco has some here and check your phone book for a supplier, most do sell to the public here. Carol I like the combination of ingredients, but the source for the beans. 64 ounces of baked beans--I have a question. Are these canned beans? I rarely use canned beans, so how can I make this from scratch? Are these beans navy beans? What seasonings are used in the canning process? Do they actually come in a can that holds 64 ounces or is this multiple cans? What brand are you talking about. I have never sean anything in my local grocery store described as seasoned baked beans. Kathleen Baked beans---We double this recipe 2 cups navy beans, soaked overnight and cooked till tender 1/3 cup brown sugar or sorghum or molasses 1 onion, chopped 1 cup fresh tomatoes or stewed tomatoes 1 tablespoon salt 1 teaspoon dry mustard 1/8 teaspoon garlic salt 4 tablespoons oil Mix well. Bake in a covered dish for 3 hours in a slow oven (300 degrees F). Uncover for the last hour. Homemade Baked Beans 4 15-ounce cans of white beans such as navy, cannellini, rinsed and drained 3 medium onions, finely chopped 4 garlic cloves, crushed 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons molasses 3 tablespoons tomato paste 4 teaspoons worcestershire sauce sea salt and freshly ground black pepper Put beans in a large pot or dutch oven, add all remaining ingredients, season lightly with salt and pepper, and cover with 2 cups boiling water. Mix well. Cover and cook in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 1 to 1 1/4 hours, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is thick and rich in taste and texture. Check seasoning and add extra Worcestershire sauce, if necessary, and extra molasses, if slightly bitter. Serves 15 to 20. A mother of 7, I need to lay down. -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Send your email first class
