Guest guest
Just a quick note about bottled water... I did a bunch of research on this a couple of years ago for the Mad Cowboy newsletter (you can go to the archives and do a keyword search for, " Dansani " or maybe " Aquafina " ....). Essentially, " Dansani " and " Aquafina " are nothing but filtered municipal water, purchased at pennies to hundreds of gallons (something like that). It's ridiculous, expensive, and a waste. Me? I get water filtered (six or so ways) for $.39/gallon in the DC area, or $.25/gallon in PA, in 5 gallon jugs. I fill up a couple of ol' Dansani, Evian, whatever, plastic bottles when home and keep in 'frig. $.39/gallon beats $1.25 (for 500 ml) any time. Ironic... I was stunned to realize I was buying bottled water by single gallons say, at Giant, and finding out it was, in one case, municipal water from New Jersey... yuck... Coca Cola and Pepsi are making a fortune off the aforementioned waters... someone already mentioned the " water wars " --- the intense political/corporate battle going on right now worldwide. Our water supplies are threatened, not as much from shortage of clean water (although that is a big solveable problem in many countries), but by " water barons " buying up the rights and selling it back to people (and, if memory serves, in one case getting laws passed to fine people if they get their own from local means.... remember hearing that on some conference tapes). To many corporate profiteers, water is the " new oil. " FYI, Mark
