Hi Donna,, responding to your post here on fiddleheads.. Actually i

cooked up some here just the other day, stired fried them with other

vegetables.. sure was good.. I can also pick them here in the wild, i

know where to find them.. This year i was to late to do the picking ,

they grow fast..Ferns.. I ended up buying some at the store here.. .

Lots of iron nutrients in fiddleheads.. They can be cooked many

ways.. I tried the stir frying for the first time and found it was

just right .. Loved them.. Sharon

I don't want scare people away from Fiddleheads, but...

There are 5 types of edible fiddleheads. Of those 5 types, 4 are

supposedly cancer causing (bladder). The 1 type that is not, I

believe are called osterich fiddleheads.

My assumption is that store bought fiddleheads are osterich (assuming

usually isn't a good thing, but I did buy some the other day). I'd

definitely be reticent to pick them on my own because I wouldn't know

which is which.
