You got it.(:- ) Unrelated, I'm traveling for work today and tomorrow. At Trader Joe's on the CT/NY line, they were selling fiddleheads in the vegetable case. (in a plastic clamshell) I know there are lots of TJ's in Cali, so maybe you can rustle up some fiddleheads there! No, all the Trader Joe's here are by the beach in my area and they are a bunch of Calif. surfers that don't know a fiddlehead from a Mossehead beer. I don't know anyone around here that's even heard of them let alone find one to cook up. LOL I know when Guru was talking about fiddleheads a few weeks ago, so I did ask in 3 Trader Joes and one manager said it sounds liked a musical instruments to him....He's right it does. Guest guest
I alweays appreciate posts like this, I doubt I will ever see a wild fiddlehead or even one for sale in the produce but this is good info for any of us out there picking them. Donna Jody <alladinjw wrote: I don't want scare people away from Fiddleheads, but... There are 5 types of edible fiddleheads. Of those 5 types, 4 are supposedly cancer causing (bladder). The 1 type that is not, I believe are called osterich fiddleheads. My assumption is that store bought fiddleheads are osterich (assuming usually isn't a good thing, but I did buy some the other day). I'd definitely be reticent to pick them on my own because I wouldn't know which is which.
