Guest guest
I believe that it is illegal to use Tonka beans in anything that is edible. They are sometimes used in potpourris but are not suitable as a food. I will have to reasearch them but I think the are condidered to be poisonous. Guest guest
http://homecooking.about.com/library/weekly/aa071497a.htm Here is a link I found about them. If you go to www.google.com you can type in the search bar " How to Cook ------------- " and it will give you websites for this. I love doing this. I found several but they were all from other countries with the metric measurement, and they had some recipes. Hope this helps, Judy - genny_y2k Saturday, May 20, 2006 2:36 PM Tonka Beans I believe that it is illegal to use Tonka beans in anything that is edible. Guest guest
I think rat poison (warfarin) and Coumadin heart medicine are synthetic derivatives of this. http://www.answers.com/topic/tonka-bean (scroll down to the Wikipedia section to find the quote below). " The seed contains coumarin, and for this reason its use in food is banned in the US by the FDA. Coumarin is an anti-coagulant and can be lethal in large doses. Many anti-coagulant prescription drugs are based on more powerful forms of coumarin. "
