Guest guest
My mother received a copy of Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book, printed 1950, 5th printing, from her sister when she got married. It was her primary cookbook throughout her marriage -- it's completely falling apart now, but I inherited it after she died. My sister and I still make the waffles from this cookbook - we think they are the best. My daughter had a friend sleepover last night, so I made them (had to really hunt for that waffle iron) but I " healthened " them up a bit. (Just a bit.) I'm including both recipes. Original Waffle Recipe 2 eggs 2 cups buttermilk or sour milk 1 tsp soda 2 cups sifted flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 6 tblsp soft shortening My Version 2 eggs 2 cups buttermilk 1 tsp soda 1 tblsp flax seed meal 1 cup whole wheat flour 1 cup all purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 6 tblsp butter
