Guest guest
soy and tofu can have estrogenic effects--women who have had breast cancer whose growths are stimulated by estrogen have to stay away from soy & actually all dried beans, but the rest of us can eat them in moderation. I have a friend who is recovering from breast cancer who had been a vegetarian for 25 years--she has had to limit her intake of soy & other legumes due to this. Some time ago there was a movement trying to drag down the intake of soy products--I looked at some of their online materials and found them to be just garbage with no scientific information at all. I privately believe that this pressure came from the meat industry. Kathleen Beth Renzetti <elmothree2000 wrote: I think it's partially about ODing on soy than tofu in particular. I think too much soy messes w/hormones. Everything in moderation!! Maybe someone else knows more? Beth Sharon Zakhour <sharon.zakhour wrote: I love love love tofu. My ex-husband, used to cook with tofu, but he's eliminated it and he's telling me it's bad. My daughters love tofu too. So, I've been googling and reading about tofu. It does seem like there's mounting evidence that it's bad for you in the quantities that I've been consuming. Primarily, it seems to be related to an underactive thyroid and preventing the absorption of minerals and nutrients. This is disturbing to me and I'd like to think it's not true.
