Guest guest
AmyF -- sounds like you need a break! :-) Your dinner sounds like a fun time, although sorry there isn't more veg stuff. It also sounds like your kids eat amazing things - artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, and baby corn?:-) I do need a break. and the dinner will be fun, and yes they eat all those things. my kids will taunt my brother by crawling under the table and teasing him (after they have removed their plates from the table. I am not the handmaid. They fold their own laundry too). I cannot be all and do all for everybody. And I did catch the typo after I hit send....I meant migrane. but back to food, they do eat amazing food for kids their age. My 11 1/2 year old's favorite food is Ethiopian. Lily eats most anything. but loves what she 'can do by her own self' (her words), so she helps with dinner as often as possible (gotta teach them to cook early). Yesterday's lunch was a black bean taco with cilantro, cheddar and squeezed lime. (IMHO that is pretty sophisticated for an almost 4 year old. I get very nervous when anything involves the stove, so that is closely monitored). Any 11 1/2 year old and almost 4 year old that eat kimchee lettuce rolls are doing pretty good. Sanna has a cookbook and loves to bake, she has opened a shoppe out of our basement called 'Sanna's Bake Shoppe'. she sells baked goods to passerby, and lemonade too. there is a very sweet man who walks by who always pays her $1 for a glass of lemonade (in my day it was $.25). Who knows, maybe she will progress to sandwich wraps? She can make a pretty wicked sandwich wrap. AmyF
Guest guest
I think children will eat a wide variety of things when given the opportunity. If a child is raised on the SAD, it would be normal for him/her to question foods outside of that. Lots of kids love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. If given hummus instead, they may be turned off immediately because of how different it is or it may take time for their little taste buds to welcome such a " new food " . Of course, like with all things, there will be a few that welcome and love it right off as well. My son (8 years old) has loved hummus for as long as I can remember. His favorite sandwich is hummus and soy cheese. (hummus and avocado or a veggie wrap are close runners up) My other kids like it as well, but they can go without. My son makes his own lunch for school, and the majority of the time *something* has hummus on it. lol Now... we have treats (cookies, snack crackers and whatnot) so my son has quite a variety of choices for his school snacks. --and the freedom to choose what he wants. He *always* goes for fresh fruits, veggies, (soy)yogurt, and applesauce. All my kids love, love, *love* tofu!!! Oh my gosh - I'm tired of making it for them. LOL They also eat " burger crumbles " , ethnic dishes, and anything with nutritional yeast on it! They really like to have n.yeast on their popcorn, but we also keep it in a shaker on the table for dinner. They sprinkle it on all sorts of things. I don't know if any of you have ever visited http:// veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/ , but I think this mom is amazing!! Her " Shmoo " has an awesome variety of healthy foods every day. I love checking it out. (I do feel inferior to this Super Mom, but she has inspired me to do better. lol) Anyway, sorry for rambling on, but when I was reading about AmyF's kids, it sounded a lot like mine. For Easter, they wanted falafel, stuffed grapeleaves, fatoosh, etc (!!) They love any types of olives, my daughter's favorite " chinese vegetables " are baby corn, water chestnuts, etc... so I felt like chiming in. --maybe I'll add one more thing - they love broccoli, spinach and brussel sprouts too! You don't hear that too often with kids. lol ~kort > ...It also sounds like your kids eat amazing things - artichoke > hearts, kalamata olives, and baby corn?..... Guest guest
I totally agree. My kids are pretty good about food. they had their 1st lentil loaf last night. Didn't go over famously but I'll treak the recipe & give it another try. I roast most veggies & they fight over them. YAY!!
