Guest guest
Here's the post I made in AJ's group. I was wrong about Safeway/Ralph's though - Safeway is the same as Von's here on the west coast. I have not tried the recipe. Amy ***************** > Good you got in here too. Can I find the Wizard brand at the > regular market do you know? Thanks, Paul! I'm not sure - but here's some info from Bryanna Clark Grogan's site. Safeway is the same as Ralph's. I have not tried the recipe. http://www.bryannaclarkgrogan.com/page/page/628669.htm#26392 VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN (ANCHOVY-FREE) WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE: " The Wizard " Vegan Worcestershire sauce, available in some health food stsores and from http://www.veganstore.com/ (Pangea) and also from http://www.veganessentials.com/ In New Zealand: it's Whitlock's brand You can buy Anchovy-Free Worcestershire Sauce from http://www.healthy-eating.com/ under " Flavorings " I THINK that Safeway's own brand of Worcestershire is anchovy-free, and maybe Heinz also, but you'll have to check the labels to be sure. Lea & Perrins is definitely NOT vegetarian. I don't know about French's. If you want to make your own, it's easy! The ingredient list is long, but it makes enough for a few months. BRYANNA'S VEGETARIAN WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE makes about 2 c. Most commercial Worcestershire sauce is made with anchovies, so is not considered vegetarian. Although there are a couple of brands which contain no anchovies, they may not be available in your area. Here's a fast and very good homemade version that will keep for many months in your refrigerator. IMPORTANT! Shake before pouring. 1 c. cider vinegar 1/3 c. dark molasses 1/4 c. soy sauce or mushroom soy sauce 1/4 c. water 3 T. lemon juice 1 and 1/2 T. salt 1 and 1/2 tsp. powdered mustard 1 tsp. onion powder 3/4 tsp. ground ginger 1/2 tsp. black pepper 1/4 tsp. EACH garlic granules, cayenne pepper, and ground cinnamon 1/8 tsp. EACH ground cloves or allspice and ground cardamom Combine all of the ingredients in the blender. Pour into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Pour into a clean jar with a tight lid and refrigerate.
Guest guest
Yes we love Bragg's Lqd. Amino's instead of soy sauce. It isn't fermented, has no alcohol and even though it still tastes as salty as soy sauce, yet it had far less sodium. Judy - Guru Khalsa Tuesday, April 25, 2006 11:16 PM Re: Worcestershire Judy, I thought that someone had a substitute recipe for Worcestershire in the group files. A quick and dirty substitute would be soy sauce or Bragg's but it wouldn't be quite the same. GB Re: Louisiana Tofu Cakes with Tartar Sauce Where is a good source of Worcestershire Sauce? I have looked and looked and can't find any. I used to buy the Kroger brand from Kroger grocery store, but where we have moved to now, there is no Krogers and the health food Stores have none.
