Guest guest
A few miles north of where I live, across the Firth of Forth in Fife, a dead swan has been found to have bird flu. I saw a headline in the local paper saying that people ought to keep their pets indoors. I am hoping that this advice is OTT, as locking the cat flap will not keep my 2 indoors - they will literally rip the catflap apart in their desperation to get outside. I find it quite difficult to know what to feel. The media here have a tendency to hype things up, so a bit of me feels there is no reason to panic and I don't really feel too concerned about catching bird flu myself, nor do I really feel too anxious for my cats who tend to prefer chasing mice over chasing birds, although I suppose if the wild birds start to get sick they will be easier to catch. But there are lots of swans round here and I just hope they don't all get sick as they are such beautiful birds. I also feel concerned lest the government will start slaughtering swans and other wild birds to prevent the spread. Please keep this in your thoughts.
