I usually only did turkey for fall and Christmas holidays. Easter/Pascha was

more creative. I don't care for ham/pork anyway. We have done Mexican,

Chinese, and anything else we could come up with to give us some zest for

holiday meals.

Now I am being a bit more " forced " towards a veggie lifestyle, not really for

religious reasons, mainly for dh's health. I would be content to be lacto-ovo,

but for part of the year we are totally vegan. Since I am new to this, it's

excruciatingly frustrating. Every single product on the shelf has soy in it.

Whether it's to brush my teeth, paint my toenails, or put on my cereal- it's

soy based. I have a low functioning thyroid and cannot ingest much soy at all

without it affecting me. It's not recommended for men to ingest much if

prostate issues are a concern for them (age and hereditary) since it's all

meddled with, and has been for many decades, the phytoestrogen content is even

worse. Toying with hormone levels is not a good idea, and I have friends with

teen boys that have larger breasts than me or my teen dd. I might poo it all

away if research only came from meat raisers or one biased entity, but then it

really does affect a person's thyroid so I can't ignore it. I am very concerned

about this, and since I have some of the health markers I do have to be careful.

so how to entertain without using soy " meat like substitutes " and not eating a

bunch of lawn instead? I still do have to feed my children, and lawn goes over

only with my dh. Help! I have taken to not having people over for dinner any

more as I am so confused. Vegetarians are far too creative by nature to rely

only on soy as their sub of choice. What gives?
