Guest guest
Hi Kath. Shortening is solid vegetable fat, a lot like vegetable margarine but without the buttery flavor or yellow colors. You could use margarine just as easily though if you can't find shortening there. It is sold in large cans here and reminds me of lard but it is made from vegetable oil. The flour i used was just plain unbleached all-purpose flour. Not self-rising or pastry flour. Hope this helps. i'd be interested to know what you all call shortening down under. ~ pt ~ The light which experience gives is a lantern on the stern, which shines only on the waves behind us. ~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge, poet, critic (1772-1834) ~~~*~~~*~~~> , Katherine < ozcheshirecatchick wrote: > > Hi PT, > This sounds great, can't wait to try it.... I was just wondering if you could tell me what shortening is though please? It's not an item/term I have heard before. Maybe it's called something different in OZ. > Also which type of flour is best, plain or self raising or all purpose? > > Thank you very much, > Kath
