Guest guest
You have no idea how bad I feel when I know a member is in this situation. I'm in LA and when we had the long drawn out market strike everyone turned to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Wild Oats. I was hoping with all the profits, they would expand and move all across the U.S. and settle in areas that desperately need those stores. Not the case, they have built more in my area. Do I need 3 Whole Foods and 5 Trader Joe's within a 5 mile radius of my house? I wish I had an answer for you. Or do you? Gas prices are strangling us! Our nearest whole foods is over 65 miles away. we keep petitioning for one, but no luck. We have no trader Joe's at all. I have lots of family owned farms that we go to throughout the growing season. Out of season we are without. Wonderful VA apples, strawberries and such. But that is driving as well. I already have to load up my children, but an extra long drive is not at all pleasant. Trying to feed them healthy foods + be frugal is getting near impossible!! Guest guest
These companies don't seem to get that NY and southern CA aren't the only places where people live. It's so frustrating! Small town america, where people choose to go without some things in order to raise kids in healthy environments (otherwise) need healthy food choices. I know of two groups just this year that have petitioned both Trader's and Whole foods. Driving and hour and a half to WF with seven kids in order to pay extra for groceries??? They sure aren't helping. I do have a co op that orders every other month, but that isn't produce.
