Currently my favorite place for trail mix options is Trader Joe's -

they have one aisle full of nuts of all types and dried fruits of

every variety! I just pick what inspires me and combine them in a

tubberware container. They also have chocolate covered fruits up over

the frozen foods, yogurt ones too, but the kiddos don't like those and

suprisingly the chocolate ones seem a little healthier. Sometimes I

add granola...again, they've got several selections at trader joes.

They make the most awesome yogurt raisins at Trader

Joe's.

I like their banana chips the best...sweet, but not

too sweet. I saw that now they make organic banana

chips.

I noticed that some stuff that I used to always get

from TJ's has gone up in price...the olive oil and

dried apricots specifically.

Every now and again take a good look at something not made with hands, a

mountain, a star, the turn of a stream. There will come to you wisdom and

patience and solace and, above all, the assurance that you are not alone in the

Trail Mix

Hooray! We finally talked mother into making her own Trail Mix instead of

buying it prepackaged. She called to say she loves it.

Old habits are hard to break but the latest recall of trail mix because of

tainted nuts was a wake-up call for her.

Mother is 89 and bless her heart keeps an open mind. I can only hope to be

more like her.By the way she lives on her own and does her own shopping. Mother

is close to becoming a Vegetarian.

She also made the decision on her own a few years ago to stop driving . She

laughs about it now but pulled into an on-coming turn traffic lane on a very

busy highway. Thank goodness there was no accident.

Mother's trail mix is very simple and easy for a senior citizen to make and

snack on.

She said to mention that *slivered* almonds, raisins and coconut are easier to

chew.

So if you have dear senior family members like mine, make up a batch of Trail

Mix for them or give them the ingredients to make their own. Check with them

first to see what their favorites are. It is a healthy chair side snack and a

treat.

Mother says that the dried fruit and nuts not only give her energy but take

away the cravings for " sweets " .
