OMG! My Mom won't shake hands in Catholic church either, she thinks it's she

will catch germs. She's from the old Catholic tradition. She wants mass in

Latin........hahaha She will go to church and listen to mass in Spanish just

because it reminds her of Latin. I touch everyone and hug them

too..............hahaha

parents are Catholic, and in the Catholic mass they have this nice tradition of

at one point in the mass giving others the sign of peace. So, you are supposed

to turn to everyone around you and shake hands and say, " peace be with you. " I

think it's a great thing. My mother chooses not to participate because she

doesn't know what germs are on people's hands!! OMG! I told her, at least when

coming to church people are putting their best " hand " forward, but she goes

shopping and pushed a cart, and holds onto rails going down public walkways. I

have told her all this and she gives me that look with the nose up in the air

like she doesn't hear me. I don't attend church often myself, but when I do I

told her I am too embarrassed to sit near her.

arrghhhhhhh.

Blessings,

Chanda

Re: water bottles & germs Hi Mel

Mel my niece will be a resident doc next year and she will drink out of the

plastic bottle of water day after day that sits in her car. Gives me the

creeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe that? Her fiance will also be a

resident doc and they both laugh about germs...............They say the worst

thinkg is the basket in the shopping carts where kids sit and the shopping cart

handle as well as the doorknobs and public restrooms. Other than that they just

make fun of us when we mention germs.

melissa_hopp <hoppmel wrote:As previously mentioned...I've got a

bit of a germ phobe worry thing,

hee hee...however, I also hate to just throw those bottles away. I

heard some lady on one of those morning shows talking about it and

only half registered what she said. As I remember, of greatest

concern was keeping water in a water bottle for a long time at room

temp (ie a day or more) and sipping it over and over. If you keep it

cold you are okay. And you can wash and reuse the bottle a few

times. I don't think you can really get in and get them clean though,

so if I do this I don't do it for long. I'm not really crazy about

the sports bottle either - the lids/straws are just impossible to keep

clean. So I end up using disposable ones and recycling...then I don't

feel quite so bad. And as Jiraph mentioned - we also freeze them and

they keep things cool, the kids love drinking that really cold water

too! I did experiment with one of those cooler things with a spout &

cups, but the water had a funny taste coming out of it...I suppose it

would work well for juice, but we limit juice...perhaps iced tea?
