Greece wins key battle in decades-long feta fight

 

An adviser to the European Union's highest court said yesterday the name

of

feta cheese is a traditional Greek name and deserves protection throughout

the EU, siding with Greece against Germany and Denmark. The advice of the

advocate general of the European Court of Justice will now be assessed by

the full court which will have a final ruling on the case in several

months.

The court follows the advice in about 80 per cent of the cases. The

countries concerned have been fighting over the white crumbly cheese for a
