Guest guest
I think I've sent this once before, but its a favorite of mine and is better cooked the day before its eaten... flavors blend better. Mushroom Lastrada (That I've been making since I was 16) 8 slices of buttered (soft) bread cut in fourths 1 lb fresh mushrooms, coarsely sliced sauted in butter 1/2 cup chopped celery 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup chopped green pepper 1/2 cup mayonnaise 3/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper Place 1/2 of the bread pieces on the bottom of a 7 1/2 x 10 " baking pan, buttered side down. Make a mixture of the rest of the above and spread it over the bread. Put the rest of the bread on top of the mixture. Take 2 slightly beaten eggs and mix with 1 1/3 cups milk. Pour over top layer of bread. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and refrigerate over night (or at least for one hour). Just before baking, pour one can undiluted cream of mushroom soup over the top. Add parmesan cheese. Bake at 300° for 60 to 70 minutes. " The cat did not respond. She did not believe in paraphrasing anybody. If people pursued this same feline wisdom, there'd be a lot fewer misunderstandings.
