Guest guest
hi penni, i think it is a myth that a vegetarian diet makes a person weak. doctors (generally) don't know much about nutrition, so don't let yours talk you into eating meat again. there are ways of getting more protein into your diet without eating meat. vegetarian or not, i think it's pretty hard not to get enough protein in the diet. meat is not the only source of protein. as long as one eats a wide variety of foods they should be getting enough protein. cereals, grains, leafy green veggies, legumes, beans, nuts, seeds, seaweed, spirulina, eggs, diary, soy, and vegetables are all excellent sources. to be absolutely sure you are getting enough protein, you may consider combining foods...which is really easy to do and the foods don't necessarily have to be eaten at the same time. to get complete proteins, eat: legumes + seeds, nuts, or dairy; grains + legumes or dairy examples include: peanut butter sandwiches, cereal with milk, yogurt with granola, macaroni and cheese, rice and beans, lentil and barley soup, etc..... of course, protein may not be the problem. have your doctor check for anemia or thyroid problems. those problems can easily be taken care of without adding meat back into your diet. stress can also be a factor....it does it's toll on the body. a b-complex vitamin might help alot too. b vitamins are very important for energy production and i think everyone could benefit from taking them! also, digestive enzymes might be beneficial to you. they help the body break down the foods you eat and make the nutrients more available for use. hope that gives you some ideas, penni. let us know how your doctor visit goes. hope your energy levels pick up soon! susie --- change2colors <plm912 wrote: > > Hi I have been a vegetarian since Oct of last year. > Only I seem to be > getting weaker and weaker as the months go by. Guest guest
Hi Penni. i just wanted to add a big amen to everything Susie stated below in her reply to you. i also wanted to add that perhaps your problem is an iron deficiency. If your doctor does a blood test and discovers this to be a case, there are many things you can eat to get added iron in your diet and still remain a vegetarian. Do let us know how you make out at the doctor's and if there are any recipes you need to support your nutrition. There are so many helpful and nutritionally knowledgable folks on this list. ~ pt~ Government does not solve problems.Ê It subsidises them. - Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , " artichoke72x " < artichoke72x> wrote: > hi penni, > > i think it is a myth that a vegetarian diet makes a > person weak. doctors (generally) don't know much about > nutrition, so don't let yours talk you into eating > meat again. there are ways of getting more protein > into your diet without eating meat. > > vegetarian or not, i think it's pretty hard not to get > enough protein in the diet. meat is not the only > source of protein. as long as one eats a wide variety > of foods they should be getting enough protein.
