Guest guest
This is a recipe that's over 80 years old. It's from my ex morther-in-law and it was her Mom's. I make this by the jars and give to all my pals. I wait until about 10 of them bug be enough and then I make up a huge batch. They say it's the best salsa they've ever had. I don't eat it since I can't handle hot food. I know I'm very careful cutting the chili peppers since I made that mistake once........ " Hot Green Salsa " 10 green tomatillos 1 clove minced garlic 1 tsp. lemon or lime juice 1/2 of a small onion chopped 1 chopped small red tomato 4 serrano or jalapeno chilis chopped 1/3 cup diced cilantro dash of salt & pepper Peel the husks off the green tomatillos but leave on the green skins and wash. Cut them in 4 sections and microwave until tender or boil on stove in a little water until tender and drain. When cooled a bit place in blender add other ingredients except cilantro and blend. When blended stir in the cilantro and place in jars to use within the week. " The afternoon knows what the morning never suspected. " Old Swedish proverb. Guest guest
Donna, Oh man that sounds absolutely wonderful (jar it, nah, I'll eat it like batches of soup, lol). During the summer I see lots of tomatillos around here for pretty cheap. Last year I had been wanting to grab some and do something with it - obviously I've now got a perfect recipe for them. Thank you. I bought ingredients for a canned tomato salsa this past weekend. I'm going to try that and report back on it. It's called, " Susies Salsa " but if it turns out to taste really good, I'll steal the naming rights and call it, " Shawns Salsa " . We'll see - the pressure is on! Guest guest
Hi Shawn, You are going to be in salsa heaven for sure...LOL When I am going to make a monster sized batch everyone needs to bring me a jar and you would laugh so hard at what I have filled up. I've had people bring me empty pickle, jam, olive, jelly, mayo, Tupperware, even scrubbed out Vaseline jars....LOL I just can't eat hot salsa like this so I've never even tasted it but I swear people offer to pay me which I won't accept, I am just happy to make them happy with a jar as long as they bring me the empty container.............. The orzo will work fine, acini is just such a cool shape when cooked up but you watch, one day you will walk right into it while shopping.......................You have a wonderful Tuesday, my flowers are happy in their new home.........Donna matrixenos <matrixenos wrote: Donna, Oh man that sounds absolutely wonderful (jar it, nah, I'll eat it like batches of soup, lol).
