" Maple Walnut Cookies " 1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar 3/4 cup Crisco or Butter flavored Crisco 2 tblsp. maple syrup 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. maple extract 1 egg 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts * optinal 30 - 40 walnut halves 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 2. Place brown sugar, shortening, maple syrup, vanilla and maple extract in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of mixer until well blended. Add egg and beat. 3. Combine flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon together in bowl. Add dry ingredients to the mixture slowly and beat until blended. Stir in the chopped walnuts. 4. Drop dough by rounded tablespoons about 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Optional press walnut half into center of each cookie. 5. Bake 8-10 minutes. Cool for 2 minutes on cookie sheet and then remove to wire rack. " The afternoon knows what the morning never suspected. " Old Swedish proverb.
